The Prescott Curley Wolves’ victory over the Lavaca Golden Arrows was nothing short of a slaughter. The Wolves scored consecutive touchdowns with no answer from the Arrows during the first half and the mercy rule was in effect before the halftime show took to the field. The Wolves advance in conference play and will meet Glen Rose this Friday at home.

The Lavaca Golden Arrows won the toss and elected to receive, putting the Prescott Curley Wolves on the defensive from the first play. The Arrows were stopped around the 15-yard line and the Wolves shut out the second play with a six-yard loss. The Arrows made their next pass but the Wolves stopped them without a first down. They opted to punt and the Wolves took over around mid-field.

Wolf quarterback C.J. Smith handed off to Avery Shaw who made the run clean with just less than 10 left on the clock. The point after kick by Juan Duran was good, making the score 7-0. Lavaca couldn’t make any progress against the Wolves’ defense and turned over.

Lindsey Burke managed a small gain followed by another short run, putting the Wolves at second and three. James Colbert made a run of more than 20 yards, getting the Wolves a first down. Colbert took the ball and made the run through the middle of the Arrows’ defense for the second touchdown of the game. The point after was held by Brandon Honea and kicked by Duran, taking the Wolves to a 14-point lead.

The Arrows made a push on their next possession and were stopped near mid-field. The Arrows make only a short gain on the next two plays, putting the Arrows at third and five. The quarterback held on the next play but was not able to push through, putting them at the fourth down. The Arrows handed over just short of mid-field.

Over the next two plays, the Wolves made limited progress but London Cole carried on the next play for a first down. Smith held on the next play for another first down. Smith was unable to connect on the next play but made a one-yard gain. The Wolves made the run for another touchdown but a penalty put them back. Prescott was at their third down with 23 yards to the end zone when Smith handed to Colbert. Colbert was able to make the run but Duran’s kick was no good, making the score 20-0.

The Arrows made a mistake and Seth Easterling recovered the football, putting Prescott again in possession with less than two minutes left in the first quarter.

As the second quarter opened, Prescott gave the ball back to Lavaca. The Arrows made limited progress and Prescott took over on downs at the Arrow’s 15-yard line. The Wolves took only a short time to carry it in and  Duran’s point after was good, putting the score at 27-0 with less than 10 left in the half.

With about seven minutes left in the half, Prescott again took over on downs. Prescott began their push and made it to the 23-yard line before Smith ran it in for the next touchdown. Duran’s kick made it 34-0.

Jordan Williamson took over as quarterback and Colbert carried in for the next touchdown. Duran’s point made it 41-0 and put the mercy rule into effect.

The Wolves made yet another touchdown before the halftime buzzer, making the score 48-0 as the half came to a close.

The Wolves took possession in the second half with a new group of players on the field. They were unable to make a first down and punted, putting the Arrows in possession just short of their own 20-yard line. Lavaca could do no better and the Arrows punted, putting Prescott in control again. The back and forth went on for the rest of the quarter and with just 10 minutes left in the game, Lavaca managed a completed pass, one of the few during the game.

There was little action in the second half as many of the younger Curley Wolves took the field. The Arrows did manage one touchdown and the game ended, 48-7.
