Mrs. Sarah Katherine Nixon Johnson was born Jan. 26, 1953, to the late Leon and Hazel Lee Simpson Nixon in Prescott, Nevada County.
She received her formal education at McRae Elementary School and graduated from Prescott High School in 1972. She was employed at Brentwood Industries in Hope. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Johnson Jr. To this union a daughter was born, Charlotte Denise Johnson Callahan. Sarah was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling, cooking, shopping, gardening, eating out, meeting people and singing in her church choir.
Sarah accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a member of the Church of God where she served as a church mother, treasurer, secretary and choir member. She was a willing and devoted worker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Arlinda Gulley and brothers, James and Thomas Leroy Nixon.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Thomas; daughters, Charlotte and Billy Callahan and LaShonda Scott; god daughter, Sharon Clark and six grandchildren, James and Jamia Colbert, Jahiem Callahan, Derrick, Derrian and DeTaven Thompson of Prescott; sisters, Mary Railey of Prescott, Lucy Nixon of Vallejo, Calif., Wilma McNeil of Atlanta, Ga., Brenda and James Sloan and Iris Carter, all of San Diego, Calif., Lyncola Nixon of Prescott and Norma and Thomas Nixon of El Centro, Calif.; brothers, Donald and Willie Mae Nixon of Prescott, Leon and Corrita Nixon of Fayetteville, Ga. and John C. Nixon of Prescott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 13, at the Church of God Church in Prescott, with Rev. Cordell Thomas officiating. The arrangements were by Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home of Prescott.
The family received friends Friday, March 12, from 3-6 p.m., at Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home of Prescott.
