An Arkadelphia man was arrested at 10th and Pine streets on Sept. 27 for driving while intoxicated, speeding and littering after toppling off of his moped in the University Washeteria parking lot.
Cecil Derry, 40, of 900 S. Third St., was treated for injuries at Baptist Medical Center-Arkadelphia for injuries sustained in the accident, according to a report on file with the Arkadelphia Police Department.
Sgt. Don Cleek was at 10th and Huddleston streets when he observed the southbound Derry hauling a bag of aluminum cans, many of which were falling onto the street from his moped. Cleek followed, watching cans continue to fall off, when Derry looked back and reportedly sped up.
At the intersection of 10th and Pine, Derry nearly hit a car stopped at the traffic light before falling off the scooter and hitting his head on the pavement, the report states. Cleek wrote that Derry was unconscious for about a minute before he regained consciousness.
Derry, who smelled of intoxicants and reportedly admitted to drinking four beers, was taken to the Clark County Detention Center after he was treated at Baptist Health Medical Center.
