A civil case has been filed against the driver of a big truck used to transport a large amount of drugs.
According to information on file at the Nevada County Circuit Clerk’s Office, the lawsuit has been filed against Leonard Fields, #11 Dalton St., Potts Camp, MS. The lawsuit indicates that the state is seeking permission to keep a 53-foot white box trailer because the trailer was being used in the transportation of drugs.
Fields was arrested June 4 after Arkansas State Police stopped Fields on Interstate 30 in Nevada County for a traffic violation. Fields reportedly gave permission for ASP Trooper Adam Pinner to search the trailer and Pinner noticed that the inside of the trailer was not the same length as the 53-foot outer dimensions.
A false wall at the front of the trailer was discovered and removed which resulted in the confiscation of 888 pounds of marijuana and Fields’ arrest.
According to the court records filed by Eighth Judicial District Eight North Prosecuting Attorney Ashley Parker, the state is petitioning the court to seize the trailer as an instrument that had been used for the transportation of drugs. There is no mention of the truck in the court records.
The trailer is currently being held by a local wrecking company.
Formal charges against Fields had not been filed in Nevada County as of press time Monday.
In an unrelated case, a similar request was filed in the case of Shontelle McKillion. In that case, the state has petitioned the court to retain $3,279.10 seized during a drug raid. According to the records, that money was the result of drug transactions.
