Area children gathered to say “farewell” to the summer reading program at the Prescott-Nevada County Library. The summer session began in June and held the attention of dozens of children for the entire six weeks. The reading program was a nostalgic one for librarian Joyce Gibson who is retiring later this month. Her final summer reading program saw Gibson more “hands on” than in summers past. Children over the course of the session made an American Flag from tissue paper and learned about the founding of the country; built a letter tree and read a book titled, “Chicka, Chicka Boom-Boom;” had a visit from “Mr. Balloon Man” and dealt in magic tricks; and created birds after learning about a bird named “Jazz.” The final program included a balloon liftoff and facepainting.
