The Prescott Curley Wolves were already ahead by 7 when the Wolves grabbed the opportunity to scoop up a fumbled football and run with it. The point after was also good and the Wolves expanded their lead to 13, upping it to 14 with a successful point after by Juan Duran.
C.J. Smith is credited with both the early touchdowns, and the Wolves set the scene for the remainder of the game which ended with a score of 62-0.
The Gurdon Go-Devils took their third possession of the game early in the second quarter but Curley Wolf London Cole put a stop to the Devils’ effort with an interception that put the Wolves back in control. The first play of the possession was incomplete with Smith’s pass just over the hands of the receiver but the Wolves took the ball down the field into good position for the next pass. There was a flag on the play against Gurdon and the Wolves began their next play within yards of another touchdown. The next play put the Wolves closer and James Colbert carried to within reaching distance. With sophomore Jesse Glass as quarterback, Glass managed to sneak over the line and the Wolves took their third touchdown of the game. Duran made the point after and the Wolves took a 21-point lead with the Go-Devils yet to score.
Just seconds into the Devils’ next possession, Gurdon fumbled and Curley Wolf Gavin Bostick grabbed the opportunity to rush back for another touchdown. This time the point after is no good and the Wolves have a 27-0 lead.
Gurdon took their next possession but received a penalty on the play and were shoved back. The Devils didn’t give it up and managed a first down at the 40-yard line and then pushed for another first down to the Wolves’ 25-yard line. Plays later and within yards of their first touchdown, the Devils called a time out. Their next play was incomplete and the Devils handed over to the Wolves.
Smith took the next play back to near the 30-yard line. Keondra Balance receives the next pass for another touchdown and Duran made the point after, taking the point to 34-0 with the half drawing quickly to a close.
But Prescott seemed determined to put the “mercy rule” into effect by half time - a situation that requires that a team have a 35-point lead - and the Wolves made their next touchdown with less than a minute left in the half. Adding the point after, the Wolves led, 41-0.
The mercy rule in effect in the second half meant the clock didn’t stop and the next two quarters flew by with the Wolves again dominating. The final score was 62-0.
The Wolves will travel to Fouke for the upcoming game.
