Members of the Benjamin Culp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a proclamation to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor recognizing the historical importance of the American Indians. The proclamation notes that “the history and culture of our great nation have been significantly influenced by American Indians,” and that “their customs and traditions are respected and celebrated as part of a rich legacy throughout the United States.”?

The DAR also cited the contributions of the American Indian which have “enhanced the freedom, prosperity and greatness of America.”

The proclamation goes on to state that the Native American Awareness Week began in 1976 and was later expanded to note November as National American Indian Heritage Month.
