Nevada County officials say there have been no arrests in the home invasion that left a 71-year-old man injured.
Nevada County Sheriff Danny Martin said the initial reports were that the victim had been shot in the head, but that it was later discovered that the man had actually been hit in the head, probably with a pistol.
Martin said the incident occurred on July 8 while many area deputies were in Pike County searching for an escaped prisoner, a situation that prompted rumors that the escapee could have been responsible. Martin said that the victim provided police with a general description of the man who hit him as being heavy-set and white. The man was reportedly wearing a mask at the time of the attack. The man was accompanied by a younger man and a younger woman, Martin said.
Martin said the victim, who lives on Wildcat Road in Prescott, was confronted by his attacker when he answered a knock on the door.
“When (the victim) went to the door, this white male stuck a pistol in his face,” Martin said.
Martin said a 22 Remington rifle, a 3,500 watt 6.5 horse power generator and a flat screen television were taken following the attack.
Anyone with information about the attackers is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 887-2616.
