The Nevada School District conducted their Annual Report to the Public on state and federal programs at its August 27, 2009, school board meeting.
Rick McAfee, superintendent, reported that the elementary and high schools have both met the states accreditation requirements. McAfee also gave reports on the curriculum, use of federal funds to improve instruction and upgrade technology, assessment results and on goals for the Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Plan (ACSIP). It was also noted that the high school is in School Improvement, year two, even though Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) standards were met, and will be removed when AYP standards have been met for two consecutive years. The high school will continue with the programs that were established last year that have helped the school meet AYP standards this year. It was reported that the elementary school is not in School Improvement.
Mr. McAfee also gave information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
The funds will be used to perform building repairs, replace equipment for buildings, and improve technology and instruction in the classrooms through professional development. Patrons were invited to share ideas on the schools federal, state and ARRA programs.
The next school board meeting will be held on Sept. 24, at the Nevada School library.
