Back on Saturday, June 24, an event billed as the “First Annual Freedom Ride Car Show and BBQ Cookoff” was getting Ready, getting Set, but never made it to “Go!” as inclement weather intruded.
Fast forward to this Saturday, July 22, where the event organizers, three of Prescott’s major civic groups, are aiming to try, and try again. This time looking for good weather at the Nevada County Courthouse starting at 8 a.m. and running until 2 p.m.
As before, the big event brings two attractions, cars and barbecue, together in a group effort by the Prescott Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, all working hand-in-hand.
And, as before, funds raised over the weekend will be divided up between the groups and used on community projects, so in the end, the community ends up as the big winner.
The Free Ride Car Show is slated to include all types of cars and trucks, according to Paula Ledbetter, the contact person who is accepting applications.  Her number is 870-703-3128, and she may also be contacted at paula.ledbetter@yahoo.com for questions.
The BBQ Cook-off is a wide open affair to anyone “who wants to bring a grill or smoker to Prescott and grill up some chicken, brisket or ribs. With a live registration starting at 8 a.m., cooks are expected to be ready for judges shortly after 1 p.m., giving them approximately five hours of cooking time.
According to the previous joint press release, those attending will be able to get samples of the food, and full plate dinners will be available for $10.
For the cooks, there is a $25 entry fee, and running in the background will also be a cake and pie category.  Janet Hood at 870-703-0271 and Patsy Laughard at 870-796-1480 are the two designated contact persons regarding the BBQ Cook-off.
And, according to the Weather Channel’s early forecast for Saturday, there should be no rain to spoil the event this time as the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with high temperatures expected around 95.
