Thanks to the unique effort of three Prescott civic clubs a big day is in the works for June 24 at the Nevada County Courthouse starting at 8 a.m.
Billed as the “First Annual Freedom Ride Car Show and BBQ Cookoff,” the event aims to bring two attractions, cars and barbecue, together in a group effort by the Prescott Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, all working hand-in-hand.
The Free Ride Car Show is slated to include all types of cars and trucks, according to Paula Ledbetter, the contact person who is accepting applications.  Her number is 870-703-3128, and she may also be contacted at paula.ledbetter@yahoo.com for questions.
The BBQ Cook-off is a wide open affair to anyone “who wants to bring a grill or smoker to Prescott and grill up some chicken, brisket or ribs. With a live registration starting at 8 a.m., cooks are expected to be ready for judges shortly after 1 p.m., giving them approximately five hours of cooking time.
According to a joint press release issued, those attending will be able to get samples of the food, and full plate dinners will be available for $10.
For the cooks, there is a $25 entry fee, and running in the background will also be a cake and pie category.  Janet Hood at 870-703-0271 and Patsy Laughard at 870-796-1480 are the two designated contact persons regarding the BBQ Cook-off.
