The University of Arkansas at Hope Community College's Class of 2017 received their diplomas before another capacity crowd of 2,000 parents, grandparents, relatives and friends overflowing throughout Hempstead Hall Tuesday night.

The University of Arkansas at Hope Community College's Class of 2017 received their diplomas before another capacity crowd of 2,000 parents, grandparents, relatives and friends overflowing throughout Hempstead Hall Tuesday night.
And for the second consecutive year, UAHT saw another record number of degrees and certificates awarded as 459 students earned 681 credentials in the 2016-17 academic year.
Executive Vice Chancellor for Student Services & Administration Brian Berry said “That is a record for both students and credentials awarded for UAHT, and we had 192 students participate in the commencement ceremony.”
Although UAHT saw a slightly higher number of students, 202, participate in commencement May 2016, the then-record number of credentials awarded were 386, which was beat in 2017 by almost 16-percent.
Unofficial breakdowns provided by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness showed Certificates of Proficiency, 306; Technical Certificates, 114; Associates of Applied Science, 82; Associates of Arts, 77; Associates of Science, 14, and General Studies at 87.
Preliminary breakdowns by subject area included: General Education, 164; Emergency Medical, 41; Early Childhood, 32; Information Technology, 12; General Business, 88; Medical Office Management, 6; Accounting, 6; Office Systems, 6; Diesel, 39; HVAC, 8;
General Technology, 6; Maintenance, 21; Mechanical, 9; Supply Chain Management, 14; Power Plant Technology, 19; Electricity, 22; Welding, 35; Funeral Services, 32; Health Professions, 11; Nursing/Nursing Assistant, 113; and Education, 3.
Also, the 2017 official graduation program featured a profile of recently named 2017 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar Hannah Kincheloe. Kincheloe was awarded her Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Office Management.
Prior to Tuesday night’s ceremony, Christopher Smith, a 2008 graduate of UA-Hope as well as a 2006 graduate of Hope High School, was presented with the UAHT Alum of the Year award by Thomason. Smith has since gone on to earn a BA in Political Science from UALR in 2010, and a Masters in Public Administration from Arkansas State University in 2014.
