Landfield closed
The landfield will be closed on Dec. 25-27 and will re-open on Dec. 29.
Christmas Tour of Homes
The Artesain Arts League will host its annual Christmas Tour of Homes on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. This year’s stops include the Depot Museum and the home of Krista Burton on Rosston Road, Ron and B.J. Glass on E. Main Street, and Bob and Peggy Higginbotham on Vick Drive. Tickets can be purchased at Prescott Flowers, the chamber office, any Arts League member or the first home you visit. Please show ticket at each home. Cost is $10 and includes refreshments which will be served along the way.
Trade Days set
  The Nevada County Trade Days will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 in downtown Prescott. The hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. If you are interested in booth space, call us at 887-6208. There is no fee for booth space. Lots of good Christmas items.
Cale Community Christmas
The annual Cale Community Christmas potluck will be Saturday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Cale Community Building.  Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the good food and fellowship.
Prescott Band
Christmas concert
The Prescott Band department will present its Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Courthouse closings
The Nevada Courthouse will close Wednesday, Dec. 24 at noon and will be closed Dec. 25 and 25. They will re-open Monday, Dec. 29. Trash pick-up for Wednesday and Thursday will be on Wednesday.
Commodities
Commodities will be issued in Nevada County at the Senior Citizens Center, 419 East Main Street in Prescott. We will begin issuing Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 8 a.m. Bring someone with you if you cannot carry the commodities to your vehicle.
Call 887-5151 for information. Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.

CASA Family Matters and the Texarkana Children’s Advocacy Center will have a holiday open house at 422 Hickory St. in Texarkana, Dec. 12 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Music at the library
“Sounds of the Season” will be presented at the Prescott/Nevada County Library, Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sip on Hot cider and enjoy the Prescott Elementary Children, Mary Roach, Yvonne Thomas, Heather Callicott, Chuck Sullivan, and many other county citizens bringing you instrumental and vocal music in the holiday spirit.
4-H food drive
The Nevada County 4-H club is doing a food drive for the food pantry. You can drop off the donated cans at the extension office or the Picayune office.

Grand opening
There will be a ribbon cutting and grand opening at Flamingo Grill new owners, Dec. 10 from 9:30-11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Food bank open
The First Presbyterian Church of Prescott has become a part of The Emergency Food Assistance program sponsored by the State of Arkansas. Nevada County whose income does not exceed the guidelines put out by the state. This service will be in addition to our already operating food bank.  The food bank will be open on the second Wednesday of each month from 4-6 p.m. beginning in Dec.
The church would also like for everyone to know that they do operate a food bank that is open every week on Thursday and Friday mornings from 10-12. It is our goal to reach out into our community to help those who, for one reason or another, have a need. Although you do not have to be a member of any church, we do invite anyone in our community to come and worship with us on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. and experience the joy of friendship and love that exists in this family of God.
Christmas sock tree
    The Prescott Rotary Club is asking for your help with our Christmas sock tree. There will be a Christmas tree at the Bank of Prescott and Bank of Delight where you can place new socks on the tree. The socks will be taken to the schools to pass out to children in need. We need girls and boys socks for elementary children. We encourage you to show your kindness to others in need during the holiday season.
Cook books from school
    Project Graduation is still selling cookbooks. They are on sale for $10. They will be here in time for Christmas. There are about 200 receipts in the cookbook. Contact Karen McLelland at 887-2688, Susie Key at 887-2717 or Carol Newton at 887-2101 to place an order.

    The Nevada County Cancer Association monthly meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at the Nevada County Library. Anyone is welcome to come and join our organization. For more information you can contact Debbie Henderson at 887-2004.
Tutoring at PES
Prescott Elementary School now has after school tutoring!
Prescott Elementary School will serve all K-4 students who wish to participate in after school tutoring.
The schedule is second grade Tues. and Thurs. from 3:45-4:45 p.m.; third grade will be Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m.; and fourth grade will be Thursdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m. Snacks will be provided!
CASA volunteers needed
The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program is a non-profit organization that utilizes community volunteers to advocate for children who are in foster care due to abuse or neglect.
A CASA volunteer is appointed by a judge to provide factual information on behalf of children caught in a difficult legal process.  As a CASA you help the judge make a decision that is in the best interest of a child; you become the voice of a child who so desperately needs one in court.  In this court system challenged by increasing caseloads, a CASA volunteer can make the single greatest difference in the life of a child.  To learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer in your community, please call the CASA district office toll free at 877-893-9793.

    Foodshare Arkansas, a community food pantry, is now open at 960 Hwy 371 West in Prescott. Phone number is 887-3663. Hours of operation are Monday 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and Friday 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. No food is given out after hours.
    Please bring the following with you the day you apply: photo ID, social security numbers of all family members, current utility bill showing applicant’s name and address, and income verification on family members. This is for Nevada County and Gurdon residents.

Can tabs needed
    Benjamin Culp Chapter Daughter’s of the American Revolution are still taking can tabs to be given to the Schriner’s Hospital for children supplies. Tabs can be dropped off at the Nevada County Picayune office, 100 E. Elm St.
Band Boosters meeting
    The Band Booster holds monthly meetings at the Prescott High School band room the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the band program. The meetings usually last one hour.
Patriotic Tree
    Family members of those in the military and especially those in the 39th are invited to come by the Prescott/Nevada County Library to view the PatrioticTree done in honor of those in service to our country and to place a star on the tree with the name of their relative.
Disaster programs
Hempstead/Nevada County has been approved for several disaster programs. Livestock Compensation Program for 2005 and 2006 for drought related grazing loses.  Livestock Indemnity Program for 2005 and 2006 for extreme heat related livestock deaths. CDP- Crop Disaster Program - for 2005, 2006 and 2007 for drought and freeze related crop losses. Crops must have been covered under crop insurance or NAP. Contact the Hempstead/Nevada County FSA office for more information or to make an appointment at 777-8800, ext. 2.
No-Till Drill available
The Nevada County Conservation District has the No-Till Drill available to rent at Ratcliff Fertilizer on Hwy 371 South, just outside of Prescott. Contracts are available at the conservation office, Monday-Wednesday. Call 887-3210 or go by 204 East Pine Street. If there is no one there call 292-8111.
NA holds meetings
Narcotics Anonymous holds open meetings every Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Prescott. For more information, call 887-2878.
Single parent scholarships
Any single parent who wishes to continue an education may be eligible for a single parent scholarship. Pick up an application at the Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, 116 East Second in Prescott or on the state website at www.arspsf.org. Return the completed forms to the Chamber.

Bricks available
Bricks to honor or memorialize those impacted by cancer are available from Nevada County Library. The program is sponsored by the Nevada County Cancer Association. The brick will be placed either around the flagpole or in the sidewalk at the front entrance of the library. Bricks are $50 each and up to three lines of type may be included. Memorial donations accepted
To make a donation to the Nevada County Cancer Association, send a check to Anice Ward, PO Box 622, Prescott, AR 71857.
Include the name of the donor, who the donation is for, and who should receive the acknowledgment card (including the address). Contributions are used to aid cancer patients in Nevada County.
Volunteers needed
Prescott Manor Nursing Center is seeking volunteers, including those willing to Aadopt@ a grandparent or to play piano. For information, contact Sarah Ramos, Activities Director at 887-6639.
VA van available
The VA van is available for mobile veterans in the Prescott area. The van will be leaving each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from Exit 44, Travel America Truck Stop at 6:40 a.m. Park at Southwest corner away from building near the second driveway. To use the service, call 777-4115 two days prior to leaving. To schedule use of the van, you must give name, city, phone, last four digits of social, name and location of clinic, time. The van will be leaving Little Rock after noon but no later than 3 p.m. Please arrive early if possible. This service is free to veterans.
Library memorials
Friends of the Library has established a special Memorial Fund to remember beloved family members and friends. Proceeds from the fund are used to purchase books or magazine subscriptions. To dedicate a new book, visit the library or send information and donation to the Prescott-Nevada County Library, P.O. Box 613, Prescott, AR 71857.
Trade Days vendors
Quality vendors are being sought for Trade Days, the tri-state area=s newest monthly vendors= market. Trade Days are held the second Saturday of each month.
