  • Nail down your tickets early and Nail down your seat, the Hope Watermelon Festival has Nail-ed a headline appearance this year by country artist David Nail.
The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope Foundation and the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce have collaborated to bring Nail to the 38th annual Hope Watermelon Festival on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Legion Field in Hope Fair Park.
A Country Music Award nominee for the video featuring his latest recording, “Whatever She's Got”, Nail first hit the top 10 of the country music charts in 2009 with “Red Light,” peaking at No. 7; then, in 2012, he hit the top of the country charts with “Let It Rain.”
According to his online biography, Nail is a native of Kennett, Mo., the son of a public school band director, who began his career in country music in 2002 with the development of a debut album, “David Nail.” After a delayed start with Mercury Nashville Records in Nashville, Nail moved to MCA Nashville Records to release “I'm About to Come Alive,” an original and cover album that broke out “Red Light” on the country charts.
Nail's rendition of Kenny Chesney's “Turning Home” on the album gained him a Grammy nomination in 2011 for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
An Arkansas State University alumnus, Nail has performed with Keith Urban, and is currently touring with Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, and Billy Carrington, according to UACCH spokesman Brent Talley.
The Aug. 9 concert at the Watermelon Festival will be one to remember,” Talley said. “Keep your eyes and ears open for early bird tickets that will go on sale early in June.”
Talley said local sponsorships are currently available for the concert and may be arranged by contacting Jill Bobo, UACCH Foundation director, at 870-722-7516.
