  • The Class of 2014 is some 500 graduates strong countywide this year as local students begin the transitions of education Friday.
    Blevins High School will observe commencement ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. Friday in the main auditorium of Hempstead Hall on the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope campus.
    Co-valedictorians for the Class of 2014 are Susan Campbell and River Kirkham. No salutatorian was named.
    Lynn Noesser, an alumnus of Blevins High School, will present the keynote address.
    Approximately 290 students will receive degrees and certifications May 13 at the annual commencement ceremonies for the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope.
    Honored guests will include Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt, president of the University of Arkansas System, who will offer comments to the graduates.
    Ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. in the main auditorium at Hempstead Hall.
    Garrett Memorial Christian School will honor its graduates May 15 at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Sydney Schobey will present the valedictory address and Sydney Santifer will offer the salutatory address. Featured guest speaker for the evening will be Shawn Hammontree, of Conway.
    A Hope High School alumnus will keynote commencement ceremonies for the HHS Class of 2014 on May 16 at 7 p.m. at Hammon Stadium on the HHS campus.
    Little Rock attorney Joe Purvis, a native of Hope, will offer the keynote address. Purvis is a 1968 graduate of Hendrix College, and he received his juris doctor from the University of Arkansas in 1976. He is a veteran of military service in the U. S. Air Force, and is admitted to practice before the Arkansas Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court.
    Purvis served as a member of the Arkansas Bar Association House of Delegates from 1974-75, and chaired the ABA Workers Compensation Section in 2012. He is a member of the American Bar Association sections on Litigation, and Labor and Employment Law – Workers Compensation. Purvis is currently a member of the Dover Dixon Horne PLLC firm.
    HHS honor graduates will be named after senior finals have been completed, according to Terri Hoglund, senior class sponsor. There are currently some 140 candidates for graduation, Hoglund said.
    Page 2 of 2 - Spring Hill High School commencement ceremonies will be conducted May 19 at 7 p.m. at Hempstead Hall. Honor graduates have not been announced.
