A line-up of local talent and an auction with many items are on tap for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event, which will be held on the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope campus on Friday.

A line-up of local talent and an auction with many items are on tap for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event, which will be held on the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope campus on Friday.

The event kicks off at 5 p. m. with a survivor's reception in the UACCH Student Center.

At 6 p. m., the Survivor's Lap will be held, with Cancer survivors and friends walking first.

This year's Relay for Life Teams include 1st Bank, Banking on a Cure, Avon Diamond Dreamers, BancorpSouth, Beryl Henry Elementary All Stars, Brentwood Industries, Diamond Bank, Divine Intervention, Downtown Oil and Lube, Fikes Truck Lines, H & R Block, Hope Auto, Hope Community TV Helping Hands, Hope Water and Light, It Works Global, Laurel Place Health and Rehab, Little Caesar's, Main Street Cleaners, New Millenium, Pafford EMS, Rainbow of Challenges, Southern Bakeries, Spring Hill Elementary, Summit Bank, Super 1 Foods, Tailgaters, Texas A & M University Eagles, Tyson Foods, UACCH, Wal-Mart Warriors, and Wylie Glass and Salvage.

The auction will have many trips and vacation packages, according to Rudy Preston, trip and vacation package coordinator.

“There will be 12 vacation packages auctioned off or won at the special drawing that will occur at the Relay for Life,” Preston said. “Of the 12 packages, seven are to Branson, Missouri, which includes terrific showman Doug Gabriel with a tribute show to Marty Robbins; the 'IT' Show, which features the Hughes Family; hand clapping Gospel music starring the Voices of Glory, and a '70s celebration headlining Greg from the tv show, the Brady Bunch.

Also in Branson, a full-fledged circus at the new Shanghai Circus Theatre; The Clay Cooper Express; Grand Country Music Hall; The Adventures of Marco Polo; Ripley's Believe It or Not; sightseeing; and a show and dinner aboard the Showboat Branson Belle.

Also, various accommodations at Myer Group hotels, such as Comfort Inn and Suites, Best Western, and Holiday Inn Express.

Other area attractions are the Talking Rock Caverns, Cave Country miniature golf, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, and others.

There will be plenty to do and see in Eureka Springs, such as the Passion Play, and the Pine Mountain Jamboree. Accomodations will be at the Basin Park Historic Hotel.

In the DFW metroplex is Billy Bob's, which is the world's largest honky tonk; Southfork Ranch, where the TV show 'Dallas' was filmed; Six Flags Over Texas; Midieval Times Dinner Theatre, with accomodations at the Southfork Hotel.

In Little Rock is the President Clinton Library; the Clinton Store and Museum, a show and dinner at Murry's Dinner Playhouse, and accomodations at Guest House Inn.

In Memphis, take the tour of Elvis Presley's Graceland, visit the gift shop and spend the night down at the end of lonely street at Heartbreak Hotel.

In Nashville, visit the Grand Ole Opry; take the Backstage Opry Tour, The Ryman Auditorium Tour, the On and Off Trolley Tour, and a VIP Tour of the star's homes.

The auctioneer will be Don Honea and Relay officers will sell tickets for the special drawing in front of the concession area.

Since this is retirement year for George Strait, a George Strait hat, a CD with his top 50 hits, and an autographed color photo will be available at the auction in a special drawing.
