The Courage House has closed due to a lack of funding, and the closure leaves a void for women and children of Arkadelphia and Clark County.
The Courage House provided shelter for women and children who were victims of domestic violence.
"There is nothing here," said Lashunda Dickerson, former director of the Courage House.
Dickerson said a lack of funding led to the closure. The shelter was plagued with financial problems in the past year. Several months ago, the organization issued a plea for donations to help pay the mortgage for the residence, which was located in Arkadelphia.
According to Dickerson, arrangements can be made to send victims to shelters in nearby counties.
"Victims can call a hotline or the police department to receive referrals to shelters in other locations near Clark County," said Dickerson.
