Jackie G. Long, 78, of Athens, Ala., passed away peacefully at his residence outside of Athens, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.
He was born in 1934, to parents Hosea and Ines Long in Vanduser, Mo. Jack was raised on the family farm with brothers, Bill, J.D., James Russell (J.R), Farris Dean; and sister, Bonnie (Houke). Jack attended and graduated from Vanduser High School. Jack was a Veteran, serving one tour of duty in the Korean War and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972. Jack married Peggy Jenkins of Big Springs, Texas, who has preceded him in death.
Jack is survived by four sons, Darrell (Vickie) of Texarkana, Texas, Robert (Pam) of Gurdon, Donnie (Melinda) of Athens, Ala., and Steve (Myra) of Athens, Ala. He had eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5-8 p.m., at Berryhill Funeral Home. A graveside service was held Friday, Nov. 16, at 12 p.m., at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Chaplin Steve Spray officiating, Berryhill Funeral Home directing.
