Getting help faster when a citizen of Hempstead County needs help fast just got a lot easier. According to information from Hope Police Chief J. R. Wilson, the new “Smart911” system has arrived in Hope and Hempstead County. “Simply put, this system allows any person to register their phone, either a mobile or a land line, with smart911.com, which will provide first responders with important information about their family should an emergency occur,” Wilson said. “For example, a person may register that they have special needs such as allergies, heart problems, or a special needs child via this system,” he said. “If a 911 call comes to our dispatch center via the registered phone, the information you provided will be transmitted to the Dispatch Center along with your call. “This information would be relayed to the first responder to better assist you with your emergency,” Wilson said. “Medical needs are simple one example. This program offers a lot of options to help us serve you better. This program is totally voluntary and totally free.” For more information, or to register a phone, go to smart911.com online.
